Popis: | The present study was designed to investigate the influence of supplementation with ginger constituents on menstrual pain in Japanese women. Twenty young women(19.9±0.3 yrs)were randomly divided into two groups. For three days from the start of their menstrual period, one group took ginger extract supplement (1,000mg/day; group G), and the other group received dietary fiber supplement (1,500mg/day; group P) as a placebo. One menstrual cycle of baseline data collection was followed by a 3-cycle nutritional intervention. Participants recorded three menstrual status; 1) visual analogue scale (VAS) as an index of menstrual pain, 2) pictorial blood loss assessment chart (PBAC), and 3) menstrual distress questionnaire (MDQ), once a day in the menstrual period. Participants who did not take their supplements or took painkillers during the intervention were excepted from the data analysis. Consequently, the numbers of data used in statistical comparison of groups were 6 and 5 in the group G and P, respectively. Comparison of baseline data, VAS decreased only in the group G (p < 0.05), in contrast, pain subscale of MDQ decreased only in the group P (p < 0.05), while PBAC increased in the group P (p < 0.05) but remained unchanged in the group G, during the intervention. These results suggest that ingestion of ginger constituents in menstrual period might contribute to relieve menstrual pain in Japanese young women. 紀要論文 |
