Popis: | Context and objectives. Charcoal workers are exposed to respiratory pollutants. They constitute a group of artisans at risk of developing a functional impairment of the airways. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of bronchial obstruction (BO) at the asymptomatic stage and its determinants among coalmen in Kinshasa. Methods. An analytic cross-sectional study was conducted in Kinshasa between June 2017 and June 2018 with 170 charcoal workers (91 transporters-conveyors and 79 sellers). The variables of interest were: personal history, anthropometric parameters and peak expiratory flow (PEF). The latter made it possible to detect the BO, the determinants of which were sought by multiple logistic regression and the Odd-ratio with p≤0.05. Results. The mean age was 38.3±13.65 years, the sex ratio was 1.2 (M> F). Almost all of the charcoal workers used no means of respiratory protection (92.4%), 26.5% were smokers, the majority of whom were men (p F). La quasi-totalité des charbonniers n’utilisaient aucun moyen de protection respiratoire (92.4%), 26.5% étaient fumeurs, en majorité des hommes (p |
