Popis: Consolidation of alumina ceramic parts may be achieved by different methods such as the slip casting (SC), cold isostatic pressing (CIP), hot isostatic pressing (HIP), liquid-phase sintering (LPS), etc. In the present work, the wear performance of alumina compacts obtained by two consolidation methods, SC and CIP, were investigated and compared. Solid particle erosion test of SC-Al2O3 and CIP-Al2O3 ceramics was performed with SiO2 dry silica sand as erodent at three impact angles (30°, 60° and 90°). The material loss during solid particle erosion is measured by changes in mass loss and surface morphology. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the features of eroded surfaces and to ascertain erosion mechanisms of the tested alumina samples. It was found that maximum erosion, for SC-Al2O3 and CIP-Al2O3 ceramics, occurs at an impact angle of 90°. SC-Al2O3 samples, at all impact angles, show slightly higher rate of material loss when eroded by SiO2 particles than CIP-Al2O3 samples.
