In this study, Ciuffoli et al. report that PSAT1, an enzyme of the serine biosynthesis pathway, regulates muscle stem cell proliferation and muscle regeneration by driving production of α-ketoglutarate and glutamine. Their work highlights how cellular metabolism controls stem cell homeostasis and highlights a new therapeutic avenue for reversing the aging-induced decline in muscle regeneration. |
