Bismuth content and growth-induced anisotropy in YLuBiIG

Abstrakt: Epitaxial films of YLuBiLG have been grown on various substrates from both pure Bi2O3and PbO−Bi2O3mixed flux. Using lattice constants and Curie temperature measurements, the Bi content of these films was determined and correlated with the growth-induced anisotropy, Kug. For a given flux composition Kugincreased linearly with Bi content but no saturation was observed up to 8 X104erg/cm3. Films grown from pure Bi2O3flux contained more Bi but had relatively lower Kugthan films grown from a mixed flux. No evidence for ion pairing as a Kuggenerating mechanism was observed. The lead content of these films is less than 0.05 atom per formula unit.
