Adherence to clinical guidelines improves health care outcomes, reduces expenditure and prevents the complication of unnecessary interventions. It is uncertain what effect the adherence to guidelines for treating diabetes has on patient satisfaction. Some authors have reported that the use of guidelines does not affect patient satisfaction with care, and have concluded that satisfaction is related to a physician's interpersonal skills, rather than to the quality of care. Others have reported that structured intervention programmes improve patient satisfaction with care. |
