Abstrakt: Platinum-free air cathode catalysts were prepared by heat- treating transition metal hexacyanometallate precursors dispersed on carbon black under an inert atmosphere. Oxygen reduction reaction on the prepared catalysts was examined with using gas-diffusion electrode floating on the surface of alkaline solution. Decomposition rate of peroxide generated during oxygen reduction on the catalyzed carbon electrode was estimated in-situ by monitoring the open circuit potential recovery after interrupting steady-state cathodic current applied to the air cathode. An effect of the peroxide elimination activity of the catalyst upon the polarization behavior of the air cathode was also described. From these results, a possibility of the cost-effective Pt-free air cathode catalysts for metal/air batteries is discussed.
