Abstrakt: In 1963 and 1964, three varieties of crownvetch were subjected to six levels of shading (31% to 100% full daylight) to evaluate responses of this species to reduced light under field conditions. In neither year did shading significantly alter percentage total available carbohydrates in the roots but root weight was greatly reduced. Absolute carbohydrate levels varied significantly between years and varietal differences were significant. Under shaded conditions root growth was affected to a greater extent than top growth. Percentage crude protein in the forage increased as shading increased.
