•Susceptibility of 400 Bacteroidesisolates to 10 antibiotics was tested in a multicentre study.•Six multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains were found and their resistance genes were investigated by molecular methods.•Relatively large number of MDR strains demonstrated from one clinical centre.•Importance of antimicrobial susceptibility testing and surveillance among B. fragilisgroup isolates is emphasised. |
