Abstrakt: To investigate the reliability and validity of the Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire, 144 factory workers completed this measure. Those scoring high were expected to display high absenteeism because their ability to cope with stress was assumed to be poor. Although this scale showed good split-half reliability and internal consistency, scores were not related to absenteeism. Results were discussed in terms of the utility of this measure as well as the use of absenteeism as an index of illness.
