Abstrakt: In 1965, 2% apholate in bait applied to vermiculite and broadcast over caged field plots of tomatoes suppressed 88% (mean) of Drosophila populations; 5 other treatments were significantly less effective. In 1966, 5 of 8 chemosterilant treatments applied to caged field plots of tomatoes effectively suppressed Drosophila for about 1 month after the last application. Female D. D. melanogaster Meigen trapped in the treated plots had maximum mean sterilities of 74% in 1965 and 100% in 1966.
