Howard P. House, MD, Los Angeles, Moderator: The discussion today, at Dr. Shambaugh's request, revolves around the subject of hydrops vs perilymphatic fistula in the stapedectomized patient. It concerns regrowth of otosclerosis, obliterative types of footplate fixation, and the area of prosthetic dislocations. Now I should like to throw on a slide, if I may, to begin this session. You will notice here two rather well-known actresses. It is quite apparent that one is critically observing the other and using her power of observation. If you recall, Sir Alexander Fleming made the very important statement that it is not the observation, but rather the application of that observation that really matters.I do not know how this one actress is going to apply her observation, but this leads me to the introduction of our outstanding panel, for these gentlemen throughout the years have not only observed, but, indeed, have carried |
