Occupational acroosteolysis is an unusual disease in which affected persons have sclerodermoid-like lesions of the skin, conditions similar to Raynaud's phenomenon, and asymptomatic, bony defects of the extremities. To our knowledge, the disease is confined solely to workers in the plastics industry, specifically those engaged in the production of polyvinyl chloride from vinyl chloride. The incidence of the disease is unknown but is thought to occur in 3% or less of workers. |
