Abstrakt: I was fascinated both by the cover and the content of your "Odyssey Into the Archives of Surgery"1 in the July 1995 issue. So fascinated, in fact, that it prompted me to check our audio archives to see how many of the famous surgical names were in our own library, in their own voices. Deceased or still alive, many of them were—Alfred Blalock, Frank E. Adair, Hastings K. Wright, J. Garrett Allen, Robert Elman, Lester R. Dragstedt, Stuart William Harrington, Isidore Cohn, Jr, Alton Ochsner, Owen H. Wangensteen, Waltman Walters, David C. Sabiston, Jr, and Hiram C. Polk, Jr.Most of these historic lectures (many of the foregoing speakers have more than half a dozen audio lectures in our files) were recorded at a time when the American College of Surgeons allowed us to record segments of their annual Congress or when the American Medical Association held an annual
