Abstrakt: An 11-year-old boy with sickle cell anemia and heart disease was treated with "partial exchange transfusion" to decrease the number of thrombotic crises by reducing hemoglobin S concentration and to improve cardiovascular status. The procedure involves the use of renal dialysis equipment. Several measurements of blood viscosity with the Wells Brookfield microviscometer were useful in the treatment of the patient.
