Abstrakt: Splitting of the nuclei in a BR-2 photographic emulsion by synchroton bremsstrahlung has been studied in the electron energy range 400–1000 MeV. Cross sections were obtained for star formation with various numbers of tracks. For stars with N ≥ 2 tracks, the cross section in this energy range is approximately constant at (220 ± 40) · 10−30 cm2/nucleon. The measured cross sections are compared with those calculated on the basis of a model of photoproduction of π-mesons at nucleons with subsequent absorption of the π-mesons in the nucleus.
