Effect of strain rate on the change in microstructure of Armco iron in tension-compression

Abstrakt: Conclusions 1.The compressive strain of Armco iron within the range of rates of 38–230 m/sec is accompanied by twinning. In contrast to this, twinning is absent in tension up to an impact rate of 230 m/sec.2.The intensity of twinning in compression increases with increasing total strain, although in the beginning stages of strain twinning increases more rapidly with strain than in later stages. Within the range of lateral compressive strains of 1.5–15%, twinning intensity depends on the strain rate and its change over time.
