Abstract: Based on the results of NMR studies of series of polyene compounds Ph(CH=CH)nCH=CXY (X, Y are acceptor substituents), it is suggested that the ratio of vicinal spin-spin coupling constants of protons at the neighboring CH=CH and CH-CH bonds of the same chain be used as a criterion for the degree of charge transfer (equalization of bonds). Conditions (n, X, Y) have been determined under which the ratio is minimal. |
