Abstrakt: AbstractNew non-stoichiometric solid solutions were isolated close to LiTaO3inside the ternary diagram Li2O-Ta2O5-Mn2O3. They all crystallize with lithium tantalate structure and extend over relatively large domains of composition. So far two types of non-stroichiometry have been indentified on the basis of crystal chemical considerations and density measurements: one corresponds to an anionic deficit coupled with a cationic excess and the other is consistent with a simultaneous deficit of both anions and cations. The ferroelectric Curie temperature was found to decrease whenever the chemical composition deviates from pure LiTaO3.
