An essay is presented on the involvement of ethnic Germans, or Volkdeutsche, in southern Ukraine in the Jewish Holocaust of 1939-1945. Particular focus is given to the militiamen of the Bogdanovka collective farm. Details related to the causes of their participation, including antisemitism and socio-psychological motives, are presented. According to the author, the ambiguous Nazi system of classifying Volkdeutsche exerted pressure on militiamen to participate in the mass murder of Jews. |
