The article presents a study which determined the role of the solute family carrier 11, member 1 (Slc11a1), a metal ion-transport protein, in enhancing adaptative immunity as well as innate immunity involving bacteria-killing macrophages. It states that the natural resistance to bruscellosis in Indian cattle may be attributable to polymorphism or genetic variations in the 3'UTR region of the Slc11a1, a finding that will be helpful in improving cattle selection. |
