Abstrakt: The article discusses a study which explored the prophylactic use of the adenosine triphosphate sensitive potassium channel opener cromakalim on neurological function and cerebral infarct in rats that have cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury. High extracellular glutamate concentrations in cerebral ischemia result to exictotoxicity and neuronal damage. The result showed that cromakalim improves neurological function and reduces cerebral infarct due to decreased glutamate receptor 1 alpha and enhanced glutamate transporter 1.
