Abstrakt: This article presents a study which examined the mechanics of rail seat abrasion in North America railroads. In addition, the investigation evaluated materials or methods to eliminate the problem of railseat abrasion. The study includes a synthesis of the best practices used to mitigate such failure and an exploration of alternative materials with good abrasion resistance for use in the rail seat region. An explanation and history of the problem is provided, as well as study method details and research findings.
