The article discusses a study which determined the influence of a ship-tugboat hydrodynamic interaction on the braking force of a tugboat in its effort to laterally move a ship. It claims that the braking performance of the tugboat is influenced by the two vessels' interaction due to the ship's wake and the tugboat's propeller slipstream, as well as the water depth. The study was done at the ship model basin at the Kobe University (Japan)'s Facuty of Maritime Sciences. |
