An interview with orthodontic surgeons G. William Arnett and Michael J. Gunson is presented. When asked about the esthetic treatment planning for orthognathic surgery, Arnett points to the unreliability of the traditional cephalometry for malocclusion diagnosting. Gunson explains that there are two splint types used in orthognathic surgery. Both surgeons admit that surgical open-bite is controversial while surgical expansion stability is the most difficult aspect of orthognathic surgery. |
