Abstrakt: The article presents the findings of a qualitative study of the academic resilience showed by high school students who were at risk of dropping out school. It reviews related literature on academic resilience. The study, conducted between 1996 and 2007, involved 808 French-Canadian Caucasians living in Quebec. Information on data collection and data analysis done by the researchers is offered. Identified problems disclosed by at-risk high school student dropouts include change in family structure, student-teacher relationships and personal-related changes. Also elaborated are the protective strategies adopted by resilient students.
