The article presents a study on how parity affects blood pressure of African-American women. Results show that as parity increased, systolic blood pressure (SBP) increased but diastolic blood pressure (DBP) decreased after three to four children, even with increases in body mass index (BMI). It also notes that parity may increase African-American women's risk for hypertension in terms of increased SBP and BMI but increased parity, and BMI may also serve as protective factor in lowering DBP. |
