The article reports that steel combined with precast concrete offers a cheaper alternative to steel piles with a similar load strength. Durable steel pile foundations are much used by housing developers who build on brown-field sites containing inert material such as landfill. But escalating steel prices can lead to high costs. To reduce the expense, Roger Bullivant has come up with an alternative form of pile that uses less steel but can accommodate similar loadings. It is called the Combi Pile. |
