Abstrakt: The article discusses facts about the painting "Moses Defending the Daughter of Jethro," by Rosso Fiorentino. According to the author, the painting emphasizes the defense of the daughters which is merely one episode in a continuous narrative and closely follows the Biblical text. The author stresses that based on the painting, the daughters tell their father how an Egyptian delivered people out of the hand of the shepherds, and drew water enough for people and watered the flock. Girolamo Savonarola shares his views on the painting, stating that the daughters are the good priests and monks who minister to their flock and the bad shepherds are the corrupt priests and canons who lead them astray.
