Abstrakt:	The article looks at the essential role of the textile industry in space exploration. It features some of the pioneering developments in protective textiles such as the phase changing materials incorporated in space suit equipment which modulate the temperature of their wearer. Other well-known textile products used in space research are discussed like the intelligent textiles that record a number of vital signs in their wearers with great precision.
