Abstrakt: The article features system utilities and techniques that can make system administration an easier task to deal with. The sysstat package, written and regularly updated by Sebastien Godard, is one of the "old school" tools one can pick up and learn. It captures system performance "snapshots" that help find, diagnose, and repair problems. "Input/Output Statistics" or iostat, reports central processing unit (CPU) and disk/partition statistics. The systems activity reporter, sar, collects, displays, and saves a long list of performance parameters. The "System Activity Data Collector" command, is a backend for sar, and is responsible for creating the binary data files.
