The article presents a study on the viability of worker-owned democratic businesses for economic institutions for an increasingly diverse U.S. workforce. In this context the article examines a firm that is entirely owned and democratically controlled by its workers. Democratic workplaces are planned and managed by their workers unlike an investor-owned firm, in which the day-to-day and long-term planning is in the hands of a small group of owners or ownership proxies. The findings of the study shows that growth enables diversity, and that workplace democratic process can be maintained in larger organizations. |
