The "Angular cheilitis" is the inflammatory lesion that involving vermilion area and angle of patient's mouth. This perioral lesion may occur due to local inflammatory condition or caused by many generalized or systemic diseases. The lower power laser (diode laser); used as treatment mode due to bio-modulation and bio-stimulation principles with safe, comfort to all subjects without irritation and warmth. The topical antifungal drugs considered clinically comfortable and beneficial for management of angular cheilitis like azole family (miconazole gel 2%). To compare between two types of treatment (Miconazole gel as anti-fungal topical application and low-level laser therapy as bio stimulation principle). Forty-five samples with age range 25-68 years involved in this current clinical trial study; twenty patients were selected treated with Miconazole gel 2% and 20 patients treated with low level laser therapy. The diagnosis of patients with angular cheilitis was done under supervision of oral medicine specialists as teamwork in the oral medicine- oral diagnosis clinic. Ten percent of patients treated with Miconazole gel 2 % were followed up for 5days and 90% of them were followed up for 12 days, while 70% of patients treated with Laser were followed up for 3 days and 30 % of them were followed up for 6 days. Miconazole gel 2% utilized as more effective and beneficial than other types of anti-fungal applicable agents. Low power laser utilized to reduce pain, change state of disease from pro- inflammatory to anti-inflammatory conditions with bio-modulation and bio-stimulation. The low power laser therapy may be showed suppression of the fungal growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
