Abstrakt: This case report presents the medical history of a 70-year-old female patient who experienced spontaneous pain in the left hemiface, accompanied by a dark lesion in the palatal vault of the same side. Computed Tomography scans revealed bilateral maxillary, ethmoidal, and sphenoidal sinusitis, along with diffuse bone rarefaction. Subsequently, debridement and biopsy procedures were performed to obtain cultures and antibiogram testing for fungi, bacteria, and mycobacteria. The analysis revealed the presence of the fungus Rhizopus spp., with a direct microscopic examination showing cenocytic hyphae. This led to the diagnosis of rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis. The multidisciplinary treatment approach included the administration of antibiotics and antifungals, as well as surgical debridement procedures for addressing the oral manifestation of the disease. However, despite 18 days of hospitalization and treatment, the patient's condition deteriorated, leading to a cardiorespiratory arrest, and unfortunately, she passed away.. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
