Captain Ralph S. Parr was a highly skilled fighter pilot during the Korean War, achieving the status of a double jet ace by shooting down five enemy aircraft. He engaged three MiGs in one mission, successfully damaging two of them. In another mission, he shot down a Soviet IL-12 transport plane, which caused controversy as the Soviets claimed it was a civilian airliner. His tenth kill, a Soviet MiG-15, occurred shortly before the armistice was scheduled to take effect.
