Abstrakt: This study offers insights into companies' IFRS transition practices, which represent a major undertaking for organizations and the accounting function. Unlike the extant literature, which suggests that companies follow a similar transition path to IFRS, this study reveals the existence of multiple transition paths according to a qualitative study of seven Canadian companies. The various transition paths to IFRS followed by the companies were mastering, learning, convenient, rushed, expanding, self-sufficient, and efficient. Following Schatzki's (2002) practice theoretical perspective, the study further reveals how the context in which, and as part of which, an organization transitions to IFRS produces a situated practical intelligibility to draw on when following one among the many possible paths to IFRS. This finding contributes to our understanding of what influences the way that companies transition to IFRS and alludes to the important role of the context in offering situated practical intelligibility for carrying out practices.
