A recent study conducted at Prof. Dr. Cemil Tascioglu City Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, compared the outcomes of anterior and posterior approaches in patients who underwent sacrospinous ligament fixation for apical prolapse. The study included 48 hysterectomized women with grade 2 apical prolapse. The results showed no significant difference in terms of postoperative anterior recurrence between the groups that underwent bilateral anterior and posterior sacrospinous ligament fixation. However, the group that underwent anterior fixation had longer operation times and a higher incidence of postoperative urinary dysfunction. The study concluded that anterior fixation is an effective method for treating apical and anterior pelvic prolapse, but further research is needed to investigate its long-term efficacy.
