The aim of this paper is to study and present the literary case of Italian literature of the "Losers", in Italian I vinti, appearing in the works of the Sicilian author Giovanni Verga (2 September 1840-27 January 1922) in the late nineteenth century. A reference is made initially to the creation of the "verismo" (genre), a literary movement that was established by the defeated heroes that served at the same time as a suitable literary environment for their development and action. The following refer to the basic theories of verisimilitude and how they are applied in the author's novel The House by the Medlar Tree (I Malavoglia, 1881). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
