Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) are functionally an integral part of the plant community. Both AMF and the plant community are interdependent. In our investigation in the dry mixed deciduous and Sal forests, we explored this relationship through community study and mycorrhizal status of plants. Plant species distribution in both forests differed significantly. Maximum mycorrhizal infection, spore population and spore density was found in the mixed forest species. Intensity of infection in most of the species from mixed forest was very high with arbuscules, vesicles and intraradical spores. In Sal dominated forest, plants were found to be fairly infected, but intensity of colonization and spore densities were poor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
