This article emphasizes the need for information integration in the broad field of emergency management, and the need for standardized approaches to handling data in order to facilitate that integration. Background information is provided to define the need, and several recent data standards initiatives are reviewed, including the Frontlines of Medicine Project, the Vehicular Emergency Data Set, and the Common Alerting Protocol. These proposed standards are examples of XML-based data exchange efforts that should contribute to a broadly integrated emergency inforamtion exchange system [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
