The article discusses the roles of kallistatin, an endogenous protein which exerts pleiotropic effects, in protecting against vascular and organ injuries. Topics include the antitumor activity of kallistatin in liver, breast, lung, colon, and stomach carcinomas and its roles as an antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory agent and a biomarker for human diseases, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome and severe pneumonia. |
