Abstrakt:	The article offers insights into how both dental and medical professionals can expand their roles to include identifying and referring chronic oral and medical conditions for appropriate care. Topics include the need to alleviate the primary care shortage in the U.S., the opportunities and responsibilities of the dental community in identifying people with diabetes and the ways health care providers (HCPs) can learn the relationship between periodontitis and diabetes for appropriate referrals.
