SUMMARY The causes of complications following carotid artery puncture have been discussed and it is concluded that trauma at the puncture site constitutes the major problem. Other methods for performing the examination are described which reduce the potentiality for such complications and possess other advantages. Carotid puncture by the traditional method is outmoded and should be replaced by the better methods now available. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
