Abstrakt: The principal value of specialized audiologic techniques lies in early diagnosis of retrocochlear lesions, which in turn minimizes technical difficulties in the surgical removal of acoustic neuromas; however, despite a wide battery of audiometric tests, the otolaryngologist too often has difficulty in distinguishing between cochlear and retrocochlear lesions. Johnson1 observed deviations in one or more respects from the classic audiometric findings in almost half of the cases of acoustic neuroma that he studied. Other audiologists2 have encountered similar problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
