The article discusses various new therapies for the control of type 2 diabetes mellitus, which include bariatric surgery, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It states that the newer methods focus on restoring normal concentration of glucose in the blood and maintaining metabolic balance as compared to traditional therapies that focused on correcting β-cell failure and insulin resistance. |
