Abstrakt: 81 female patients suffering from nosologically unhomogeneous depressive syndromes were treated with the monoaminoxydase-inhibitors Niamid (32 cases), Serin-isopropyl-hydrazid (20 cases) and Marplan (29 cases). Both Niamid and Marplan proved to be clinically valuable preparations with sufficient compatibility and identical indications. The therapeutical effects of 150 mg Niamid p.d. were comparable with those of 50 mg Marplan p.d. SIH was therapeutically efficient, too, but produced considerable orthostatic hypotonia and impairment of erythropoesis. All preparations had in common the effect on the pathologically changed vital sphere. They increased the vital potential. A therapeutical effect in depressive syndromes could be noticed only when there was a decrease of vital tonus. In analogy to similar experiences with EST it was possible to provoke paranoid symptoms in 'hidden' cases of schizophrenia which first seemed to be vital endogenous depressions. Thus the nosological position of those syndromes could be made evident. There could be observed another analogy between the effects of EST and the treatment with MAO-inhibitors: with both methods the vital improvement is prior to the remission of depressive delusional symptoms (feeling of guilt, fear of impoverishment, hypochondria).
