The introduction of guniting in converter process practice influences the appearance of the statistical relationships of lining life to production factors. In some cases they do not yield to technological interpretation and may not be used in explicit form for solution of problems of optimization. The difference in the empirical relationship between the specific consumption of guniting compound and the increase in lining life as the result of guniting from the analytical model and the influence of this factor on determination of the optimum length of converter campaigns is shown.
