Light-weight brick of a homogeneous structure, relatively low apparent density, and high strength can be produced successfully by semidry molding if the batch contains a granular burn-out additive with a limited proportion (10-15%) of grains smaller than 0.088 mm, and a fine-ground refractory component with at least 70% grains smaller than 0.088 mm. When the refractory part consists of several components, more particularly chamotte and clay (kaolin), these should be mixed dry or ground together beforehand and the refractory should be added to the granular slip-wetted burn-out component only in the form of a homogeneous mixture.
