Abstrakt: |
A Peierls distortion incommensurate with the lattice constant is considered in the Fröhlich model of a linear conductor. A prediction for the correlation length of the distortion is obtained using a Ginzburg-Landau expansion of the free energy for temperatures well below T, the mean field Peierls transition temperature.
