Abstrakt: The surface-chemical reactions of the chlorosilanes with aerosil were studied by IR spectroscopy. It was shown that the chlorosilanes undergo a condensation reaction with the free hydroxy groups of the surface and form thereby hydrosilyl chains which are stable in vacuo up to 400‡ C. It has been established that the molecules of these silanes interact with the surface hydroxyl only with one chlorine atom, and hydrolysis of the remaining Si-Cl bonds leads to the formation of new silanol groups. In the case of methyldichlorosilane, the Si-OH groups formed are readily condensed at 200‡ and the surface obtained contains almost no hydroxyls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
